WAKE UP, ALREADY

Does anyone else think it is weird that my almost 19 month old takes 2 naps a day?

Here's Charlie's schedule:

Awake at 7 a.m.
Nap #1 from 10-12
Nap #2 from 2-4
Asleep by 7:45 p.m.

On the days that I forget to put him down or do it late, he literally begs me to put him in his crib so that he can sleep. It makes no sense. Something else I find strange is that he hasn't once tried to escape from his crib. Bizarre. What do you think he's doing in there? It doesn't seem normal for a kid that age to sleep all day. Right?

  1. I agree with Kelley, but he could be having a very long extended growing spurt! (Really babies and kids grow the most when they are sleeping... well at least that's what I read)

  2. Penny still takes a 3-4 hour nap every day..........she's almost 2. I get bored by that last hour.

And she doesn't try to get out of her BED. There's nothing keeping her in there but she won't get out if she's not supposed to. I'm afraid to tell her she can get out when she's done sleeping because I'm afraid she'll figure out she can get out whenever she wants too....lol

  3. Annabella used to be like that! Oh what I wouldn't give to have that schedule back. I wish she still took naps!

  4. My son is 22 months old and only takes one nap, but oh how I wish he was still taking two naps. Some days (most days!) I need two breaks during the day!

And my son likes his crib, too. If I'm cleaning his bathroom or putting away laundry he wants to be in his crib, and he will just sit in there and play and talk to himself. He loves his crib. And hasn't tried to climb out if it yet, either.

Enjoy your two breaks today...I'll be jealous!!

  6. Can I trade you kids for a while?! Chandler has only ever taken two 30 min-1 hour naps a day! Maybe Charlie's schedule isn't normal, but it definitely sounds nice! I agree with Kelley, and maybe Luke just wears Charlie out ü

  7. Apparently Ginger doesn't love me as much as Charlie loves you. She thinks her second nap is a waste of her precious time.

  8. Every kid is different in their need for sleep. My son stopped the 2 a day nap schedule around 18 months... but at 28 months he is still does take one nap a day that lasts anywhere from 1 to 3 1/2 hours (the longer nap is if we were able to play outside in the morning). He sleeps anywhere from 8 - 12 hours each night.

We had a period of time though where he had some health issues... that he barely slept at all. So the sleep is a welcome relief and break for me.

Enjoy those naps while they last :D

  9. I wouldn't worry about it! My daughter did the same thing, and she didn't crawl out of her crib until she was OVER 2 yrs old!
    He must like his sleep!

  10. Take advantage of it! Ry takes 1 nap but it is usually about 3 hours, sometimes longer. He asks to go to sleep/take a nap if I am running a little off schedule or if he is extra tired. I love that he wants and asks to take naps! As long as Charlie is wanting to, I would love the time with "1" kid! Enjoy!

  11. Don't question it, just accept it. Linus is down to only one nap a day, and only some days. My other kids have been done with naps around two and I am trying so hard to keep that from happening this time around.

  12. Why are you complaining about this? Jonah won't take a nap AND he wakes up most nights. I really think Charlie is just hiding out from Luke. Luke wears him out!

  13. I actually was wondering about that when you mentioned it in a post recently. I'm jealous. Grace needs 2 naps or a really, really big one, but won't nap as long as it seems like she needs. At least she sleeps well when she does sleep. Enjoy all that napping!

  15. Just ENJOY it! My Henry took two naps a day the same hours until he was two and a half. I was so sad when the morning nap ended. Henry is still a good sleeper. He is 4 and a half and still occasionally takes a two hour afternoon nap. It's AWESOME. I hope Owen (almost 4 weeks old) takes after him.

  19. Stop bragging. My 8-month-old maybe takes one half-hour nap in the afternoon. If I'm lucky.

    And he hates his crib.

  20. My two-year-old grandson LOVES to sleep, too. When he's at my house, he will ask for his milk, go sit somewhere quiet with his sippy, and fall asleep. Anywhere.
Right now, he's asleep on the kitchen floor. I did cover him with a blanket, though. "See, I AM a good grandma!"

  21. my kids took two naps until around 21 mo. old or so. And my oldest didn't give up his afternoon nap til he was almost 5 years old. and yes, he would still go to bed by 8 every night. Meri on the other hand gave up all naps by 2 1/2. Drove me nuts. It's wierd how they are all so individual. I wish they would come with their own "how to raise" manual. It would relaly make life easier and more predictable. But then I guess we are supposed to try to figure things out on our own! Oh how I would love a manual on some days! that's awesome that he likes his crib. Our first 2 boys were out the minute they could get their leg over, but the rest have stayed in and loved it til like 3years old. I love that! yay for Charlie!
