FALL

I love fall because I can wear sweaters and coats and Ugg boots and scarves and hats and designer jeans and long johns and orange and mittens and raincoats and wool socks and closed-toed shoes and flannel pajamas and huge headbands!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just kidding.

Why do you people like fall? Everyone's facebook status/blog keeps singing the praises of fall. I don't get it. Fall is cold. It means to me one thing: Nylons at church!

I hate nylons. (I don't do the nude colors, just black.)

Some people say that you should never wear nylons (or PANTYHOSE), but those people are crazy. That's like wearing shorts in the snow. Some people say that you should only wear tall boots with wool socks when it is cold, but those people obviously don't have skinny calves that make it impossible to find a good boot. My mother is the only person I know who says you should wear nylons all the time. "It prevents varicose veins," she tells me. Too late, Mom. I already got them.

Don't even get me started on how much nylons cost. I probably go through about 1 pair every 2 Sundays. If my kids don't claw them with their fingernails, I snag them with my wedding ring.

No one ever talks about nylons, which leads me to believe that I am the only one still wearing nylons. Another clue was when I was at the grocery store the other day and there was a whole shopping cart full of really good nylons for a $1.00 a box. I felt like I had won the lottery. I only had enough cash on me to buy 5 boxes. The next day I went back and there were just as many nylons in that cart as the day before. Maybe I really am the only one buying them. Yet, if that was true they should always be on clearance. Right?

  1. Seriously, there is never a good enough reason to wear nylons. Not even in South Dakota. I'll wear boots that look like galoshes on my skinny calves over nylons.

  2. I hate nylons. I hate it when they start to fall down in the middle of church...I feel the urge to lift my skirt and fix it in the middle of hall!! Drives me nuts. I cheat and SOMETIMES wear knee highs with long skirts. Otherwise, I would rather just go without and wear my heals without stockings - I don't care how cold it is! :)

  3. ha ha Cristin. I had to laugh because I am a fellow nylon nerd. And for real they are always snagging. I only do black and nude though so that's all right, right? I stay away from the suntan. Oh, I might as well give up. I am no fashionista! ; )

  4. I'm with You! I feel naked without them, even in the summer, unless I am lucky enough to get an even tan on my stubby legs. I buy the mail-order Silkies hose. They are about $4.50 a pair, but I can usually get 4 or 5 wearings out of the. And I am as hard on them as you are!

  5. NYLONS??? why don't you just wear black tights? You don't have to wear the ones that are completely opaque. nylons are sooo grandma... but I do agree that you should never show you legs during the winter if it's colder that 60 degrees outside.

  6. also... tights will last you about 100 more times than nylons will. Nylons are sooo outdated.

  7. i love tights and nylons. more-so tights, because theyre definitely more durable, and often cuter (patterns, different shades, etc). and your first paragraph reminds me of the seriously so blessed blog haha. love it.

  8. I bought thigh high nylons when I was pregnant with Carson and can never go back now...I absolutely can't stand having a tight band around my waist like that pushing my pudge into a donut. Nasty. With the thigh highs, I actually like wearing them to church. Give 'em a try...but you're right, they aren't usually cheap.

  9. Who would have thought a post about nylons would create so many comments. I hate them, hate them, hate them. That is why we live in Arizona, so I never have to wear them. This was one of my mission trials. I wore the knee highs, which I would never be caught dead in now, but they worked for the mission. Does it really get that cold where you live?

  10. I don't care, Kelley, or anyone else. I wear them.... dum dum dum dum... EVERY SINGLE SUNDAY!!! OH MY GOSH!!! And I consider my self "somewhat stylish" you know, I like to shop at "higher-end stores" or atleast have that "look" but besides that.. it is ALWAYS FREEZING in our chapel, especially when it is 110 degrees outside so I have to or I am freezing, and its better that a tanning lotion and they are comfortable to me.. WHAT nylons fall off of you??? WEIRD.

  11. I know what you mean about nylons always snagging. It's one of my biggest pet peeves. But I do like tights--same effect, but they are much more durable. And I'm sure you learned this tip on your mission, but clear nail polish does wonders for stopping runs. Not that it helps with runs that start in the middle of your leg or anything, but if the run starts up high or on your foot, it's possible to reuse said nylon. I'm such a nerd.

  12. I wear tights. I haven't bought nylons since I was 17 and still lived at home. Even then I only bought them b/c my mom made me wear them to church.

I agree with Kelley. It's not just about fashion, they'll last you at least twice as long.

  13. I go through periods of loving and hating nylons. It is usually when they snag, or I realize a beloved pair is too small for me, or I feel fat, or they give me a stomach ache that I hate them.

I had to get my boots custom-tailored because I was tired of being the only one without boots that fit. The guy took 6 INCHES out! It wasn't too expensive and was DEFINITELY worth it!

  14. I said support hose (not just any generic "nylons") will prevent/and or offer relief from varicose veins. You can get special knee-highs too. I challenge anyone, esp. those who stand on their feet all day, as I did most of my working life, to try wearing good support hose and sensible shoes for a few weeks---then tell me your feet, legs, back and energy level aren't greatly improved!

  15. I love the beginning of fall, the cooler/warmer temperatures. However, fall means to me that winter is coming and snow and snow shovels and clearing sidewalks and freezing. The only thing that takes the pain out of potential frostbite is the thought of donuts and hot chocolate.

I, too, wear nylons. I've read your sister's blog, and I even invested in tights. Unfortunately, they are more expensive, and when they snag, they're as good as gone. With a child, mine snag often. Also, when you have massive legs like mine (sorry for the vivid picture), thigh-highs don't work, they just fall. I like knee highs or full length. Either way, one day I hope to be skinny enough and have sleek enough legs that I don't need them. Wait, I guess I'll have to move somewhere warm, somewhere out of Utah.

  16. I think tights and nylons are great in the fall and winter! I'm like you, going through a pair every two weeks. If it isn't the kids tearing them, it's furniture!
