HOORAY FOR EVERYTHING!

Do you love High School Musical? Is your secret dream to travel with Up With People? Have you ever attended a Spice Girls/NKOTB/N'SYNC/Hannah Montana concert?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions then you will love A Brand New Year!

I discovered this a few nights ago as I was preparing some stuff for Young Womens. Contrary to what you might think, this is not held in the Crystal Cathedral, but the Conference Center! Unbelievable that the Church would put on something this evangelical... complete with the head mics, cheesy dance moves, and clapping. As much as I want to make fun of it, I actually really like it. The songs are catchy, the kids are talented, and it's so cheesy that I can't help but watch it over and over and over again.

This is the best song. I love how the Young Mens and Young Womens Presidents are wearing head mics and start dancing. How can you not like the Jason Mraz wannabe and the Utah kids break dancing?! This is classic stuff, people.

Also, since I am an American Idol expert, I figured out that one of the main kids singing is JB Ahfua who made it to Hollywood at the Phoenix auditions of American Idol. Yay! Hooray for everything!

WHAT THE HECK?????????????????????????????????????

This is BIZZARE.

And a little embarrassing, too! Oh dear.

Okay, I've watched more of it and I've decided...I am not okay with this at all. It's just too weird. WAY too weird. I would be really mad if my leaders made me go to something like that.

I don't know why, but the dance routine reminded me of the "bad" kids dancing in Saturday's Warrior. Just put them in spandex and sleeveless tops and the music in a minor key. The adults were like televangelists. Why are they trying so hard? Maybe I just need to watch it a few more times to get numb to it all.

I thought this was pretty strange too. We showed it to our YW/YM for a fireside...

I thought this was pretty interesting too. But this is what will catch the kids' attention right now, since they LOVE High School Musical. Oh, and those moves are classic EFY.

I made it to 3:12 and I HAD to turn it off. how embarrasing...

Greg was telling me about this video!! I guess they showed to our youth at a fireside two weeks ago. I asked, how did the fireside go? His response...."weird". Not the typical response from a fireside...now I understand. :)!

It was hard to watch. Very different.

I LOVED it. I watched the whole thing and the message was so inspiring. It made me want to go invite my neighbors over and share the gospel and stuff.

Creepy. Sorry but it was just too weird. It feels like something off the Jesus channels on cable- just needs the pitch for money and bigger hair. And WAY more mascara.

Then again, I won't even watch LDS movies because I find them embarrassing and goofy.

I don't know quite what to think...

I think it looks fun. So, it's different-but what's wrong with that?!

I think I could see myself liking it if I was the kind of person who liked High School Musical (yes, I part of the 1% of the population who doesn't like HSM) I don't think it's weird, in fact I'm surprised that so many people think it is... really it doesn't seem any weirder than HSM. Actually it kind of reminds me of the roadshows we used to do in Camarillo...

Hee, hee...it was a little weird, that's for sure--but it reminded me of a mix between Saturday's Warrior, EFY, and HSM. And I'm impressed that you recognized JB Ahfua...Steve and I totally knew he was Mormon as soon as we saw him on the American Idol auditions. C'mon--Samoan, wearing a nice outfit, and from Utah? Dead giveaways.

I'm thinking this was NOT a Sunday fireside? Seems kinda wierd that some wards are showing this on Sunday. Maybe for a weeknight activity...

If you think this was cheesy, you've never seen a production of "A Time to Love" (LDS musical program from the '80's about morality). Imagine gentle music playing in the background as a handsome youth is saying words like "syphilis" & "gonorrhea"... & you're sitting next to your 15 year old boyfriend. Ewwww...

But the kids there looked like they were having fun! Who are we to judge? It's for the YOUTH, not us old farty curmudgeons, anyway! (thank goodness...)

I just think it's weird what they are wearing. I mean that's what they have missionaries from MTC wear when they sing in the Conference CHoir... but they were DANCING

Katie said...

Yes yes yes..... though it wasn't my favorite (VERY Evangelical) I will probably be singing the song for a week now. THANKS A LOT.

And thats the point.....
