CHARLIE BIT ME

It has always been my understanding that there are two options when a baby bites you while breastfeeding:

Option #1 - My sister-in-law, Ditte, taught me to flick the baby in the mouth with my finger.

Option #2 - La Leche League taught me to put the baby on the ground if he or she bites you. A baby obviously isn't hungry if he is biting because it is impossible to nurse and bite at the same time.

Well... meet Option #3:

Pummeling your baby in the face and giving him a bloody nose.

I was so shocked when Charlie bit me while nursing after church today, that I accidentally hit his face pretty hard with my hand. Sorry Charlie. His teeth are barely noticeable, but I can feel them. Oh boy, could I feel them.

  2. J.R. use to bite when he was done breastfeeding. It hurt so bad. I tried the flick, I also had my finger ready to stop the suction and pull him away when I thought he was going to bite. Option#4: Stop Breastfeeding. Thats what I ended up doing because it hurt so bad, I would bleed. I would sit there just anticipating the bite and the ensuing pain. He was like 7 months old and I was done. Plus my milk supply wasn't as much, I think because I did not look forward to breastfeeding anymore, that my body stopped producing or something. I feel your pain though, that is not fun. Poor Charlie and his bloody nose, he still looks happy though.

  3. So after punching our baby in the face, does this mean an innocent little spanking is OK when the kiddos misbehave? Sheesh, and you tell me I'm too physical with the kids...

  4. Poor charlie, poor Cristin! That sucks! Milo has no teeth yet but he has started to "bite" it makes me nervous. I think I'd be more inclined to quit like Amy. But I'm pretty sure a pop to the nose will cure Charlie of his bad habit! Lol!

  5. Lizette bite me so much that I was bloody and bruised, after many months I ended up having to stop breastfeeding. I cried so much over the matter. I am so sorry that he bite you and you had to beat him. Hopefully he will s top biting.

  6. Wow....i'll have to remember that technique! lol! Emma has started to bite me too....but she has no teeth. As soon as Sarah got her teeth in I stopped breastfeeding cause the biting got so bad. I'm hoping Emma won't get her's for another couple of months! OWWWW!

  7. Haha, poor thing is still smiling though!

I screamed so loud the first time Cordelia bit me, I scared the wits out of her. She only bit a couple times after that.

  10. That is the funniest biting story! When Grace bites I say firmly "no no"...it is the only time I ever talk firmly to her. She gets her feelings so hurt. It never works, so I just started setting her down. BUT, it is shocking how much it hurts when they bite with teeth!

  11. Yikes! I know I would have done the same! That is pretty shocking to be bit somewhere tender like that! He's looking pretty happy, tho, in this pic! Almost like he might have some vampire in him. Thought about changing his name to Edward? Ha!

  19. The only one of my 7 kids who ever bit me was my son who is now on a mission! I did the flick thing, and he immediately burst into tears, and refused to nurse asgain for 10 hours. And he was 6 months old and my BiGGesT nurser (9.5 lbs at birth!) I hurt SO bad! But he never ever bit me again!
