A PLEA TO THE WORLD

For the love of all things that are good and holy, I beg of you to stop putting your fingers in this baby's mouth.

Random people are always asking me to hold Charlie. Then, 9 times out of 10 I look over and five minutes into it they are sticking their fingers into his mouth. No wonder he still has thrush.

They laugh, "Oh, isn't it cute? He likes to suck on my fingers!" Yup, it makes perfect sense to put your germ infested hand into a 4 month old's mouth. Suck on this, Charlie -

The cartoons in this picture represent the everyday nastiness that is probably on your hands as you read this blog.

So, I repeat. Please stop sticking your fingers in my baby's mouth. Just because he likes to suck on them, doesn't mean it is a good idea.

Thanks.

  1. That is nasty! I am so glad only 1 random stranger has asked to hold Ryan, and somehow I managed to say no. Maybe I am not as approachable as you??? I get bugged when people I know put their fingers in his mouth.

  2. Yuck. Who has done that? Cause it's not me! So I'm the 1 out of ten, huh? Isaac is looking at the hand asking what is wrong with it, then he keeps saying, "ooh, yucky germs". Good mental picture.

  4. When you hand Charlie to someone, casually say, "Are you sure you don't mind holding him? I can't remember the medical name, but he has these persistent sores in his mouth, not a big deal--- it's sort of like foot and mouth disease---just be careful you don't get any of his saliva on your skin, especially your hands. But in case you do, let me know right away! Hopefully I still have some of those Chlorox wipes in my bag...Oh! One more thing, do you have to worry about having your immune system compromised?

  5. Thats disgusting, who thinks it's okay to put their fingers in anyone (even a baby!)'s mouth? I like your mom's idea, or you could whip out your hand sanitizer and ask the potential baby holder to thoroughly sanitize for 30 seconds...

  6. Ewwww!!! Who does that?! I think that I would instantly take Charlie away and ask them what is wrong with them that they think it is ok to stick their hand in a baby's mouth. Yuck! VERY cute picture of Charlie. =)

  7. Are people idiots?!!! I always had a hard time with strange people even touching Erica's hand b/c that is only one step away from going into her mouth. I cannot believe people directly shove their fingers into his mouth. I hope he bites one of them sometime.

  9. People do that to Jonah ALL the time! It drives me absolutely crazy! I'm too nice to say, "Hey Will you please get your gross fingers out of my childs mouth!? Who knows where your hands have been!" So I usually just come up wityh an excuse of why I need to take him back.

  11. I don't know who you are. I'm a friend of Annie's, and I clicked on your link from her page. I wish you could get some kind of funding for propaganda of this kind. I want to club mothers who stick even their own fingers in their babies' mouths while they're out shopping, because even their own fingers have enough germs on them to kill a bull elephant. I want to run over to them and say, "you might as well feed your little darling child dead french fries you find on the floor." I feel better knowing that there's at least one mother in the world that realizes how many germs are on even the cleanest hands.

ps: Your "security word verification looks like PALIN" (but its really spelt palih) Is that a subliminal message??!

  14. Was this directed to gramps, who let him suck on his hand during church to keep him happy?
    Sorry, Charlie....we LOVE you!

  15. I know the whole germ thing is pretty gross and the fact that Charlie still has thrush is pretty annoying, but lets face it, germs are everywhere. So I don't have a child yet, and maybe I will have a different opinion in a few months, but germs are unfortunately a part of life. There is a family I know, where the kids are constantly, and I am mean constanly sick. The mom is very "protective" about her kids and so I can't help but wonder if that is why their immune system is so low and why they are always sick. I guess you can be grateful Charlie will have one awesome immune system!!
