AQUARIUM OF THE PACIFIC

For about 20 minutes yesterday morning I was planning to take the kids to the Aquarium of the Pacific while Erik was at work. Then I was like, "Whoa, what am I thinking? I don't even like to take the kids to Costco by myself and I'm going to spend all day with the two of them at one of the largest aquariums on the West Coast?!"

So, instead I took them to Petsmart and I really don't think Luke knew the difference!

As pathetic as this may sound, taking both of the kids out and about by myself to explore, while Erik has been at work this week, is a very big deal for me. I really struggle with doing anything with the two of them. I know it is very wimpy, but until Luke stops running away from me, it is hard to leave the house. I try restraining him in the stroller, but he can even get out of that now.

My ideal invention, if anyone wants to provide the financing, is a drive-thru grocery store. You could drive down each aisle so as to compare prices and products. I would love this because then I wouldn't have to take the kids out of the car. Knowing my luck though, this would become reality and I would get stuck in a boring aisle behind a big truck.

  1. My dream is to be able to all my grocery shopping online and then go pick it up from the store - already bagged. I just have to pay for it. Maybe they would even load it in my car for me.

  2. Love the picture of Luke, he is in heaven. Hey, he got to see fish and you didn't have to pay any money. Nice work!

  3. suddenly those toddler leashes don't look as bad as they used to.

  4. I really don't think that a toddler leash is bad! I don't understand why people freak out so much over it! I mentioned having one for Jonah when he starts walking the other day and this girl freaked out. She didn't have any kids though... and I think if she had a Luke, she would understand. If I were you I really would try one. Maybe luke would like it! It's better than having your child restrained or hit by a car or taken! And they do hve online grocery shopping which is probably expensive but if it's that important to you it might be worth a try!

  5. I totally know what you mean. I have reduced my trips to the grocery store and Costco since having 3 kids. I've also turned to milk delivery at home and diapers being delivered at home just so I don't have to make the extra trips. I decided after having Sam that I was NOT going to go to the grocery for 2 gallons of milk with 3 kids - just wasn't going to happen.

Great idea for an "aquarium" and it's free :)

  6. I don't know if this helps you or not, but for a project for one of my classes at BYU I evaluated a business called netgrocer.com, where you shop for all of your groceries online and they deliver it to your door! It's actually a pretty good business, their prices aren't the cheapest but they have a pretty good selection and it might be worth it for the convenience? I'm sure there are other businesses like it also if you do some checking... good luck, and I love the creative substitute for the aquarium! :)

  7. That is too funny! But so smart! I just want you to know that you aren't wimpy, well, I guess if you are then I was too. It took me forever to feel like I even wanted to take the kids somewhere on my own. I had the same thing, one would run, and you can't exactly leave your baby to chase him, or run with a baby carrier. As Julien got older, I would talk to him the whole way to the store or wherever we were going about staying by mommy and the safety rules. He gets it now, still with reminders, but I'm finally able to do more things, only now it's Jonah that runs from me constantly. Like other people already said, you can do shopping online. I got to that point too and I found out that Albertson's has online grocery shopping and either they deliver it to you (that's the most expensive way) or you can pick it up all bagged up. I just never ended up doing it because our Albertsons here didn't have it, but a lot of them do...not sure about your small town though. I also used to dream about drive through stores. Only I visualized more of a "Mother's emergency drive through store," where they would have the essentials that a mom with lots of kids could just put the kids in the car and go through a drive through to get milk, diapers, wipes, medicine, whatever most moms need all of the time. Anyway, it will get easier, eventually:).

  8. I was going to say the same thing about (Albertsons and probably other stores now) delivering it to you... But before I go I must say one more thing: I hope you have repented of evil thoughts/words to those moms out there who have help/nannies (and to some with even MORE kids than you) to help them do the essential things like shopping and making dinner. (Cause I bet right about now you are wishing you had one too.)

  9. That is HILARIOUS that you took them to Petsmart instead of the aquarium! As for the drive-thru grocery store... I have often wished they had one! I know they have the online grocery shopping, but it's too expensive. I'd rather just wait until Nate can stay home with the kids while I go shopping alone (which is usuallly what ends up happening because it's such a nightmare to take both kids).

  10. Luke must really hate you if he tries to run away from you all the time...what do you do to the kid???? : ) Just teasing. How funny to take him to Petsmart! So next time he wants to go to SeaWorld, take him to the swimming pool and tell him it's the same general idea.

  11. cute picture. This could be the beginning of a tradition. Don't tell Luke it's his birthday (becaus you celebrated it a week before), tell Luke you are taking him to the aquarium, but really go to petsmart. Next are you going to take him to the local park and tell him it's Disneyland?

  13. There was a drive up (not drive through) grocery store near my work. It received a lot of media hype and went out of business in a couple of days. Meh.
