DECLAWING THE CAT

Is there some great secret about cutting an infant's nails? I have been scratched incessantly over the past week. I have battle wounds on my belly, arms and even neck! You're probably thinking, "Hey, the big secret is NAIL CLIPPERS." However, whenever I try nail clippers I always seem to nick his little fingers, followed by bleeding and lots of crying. It's so bad that I would rather be clawed to death... which is happening as I type this. Ow.

  1. I have to wait until Abby is good and asleep before I even think about trying to cut her nails. It's a lot easier when they are out and not all wiggily.

  3. I cut Ryan's nails when he is half asleep and nursing, I also use the nail scissors. For some reason I can do it faster with those (before he catches on that I am grabbing at his fingers.) I feel like I am cutting them all the time though...sometimes 3x a week because I keep finding scratches on him...

  4. You know those baby nail files? They're a pain in the butt to use, but they don't cut the skin and they get the job done. :-)

  5. yeah, baby nail files or maybe would erik be better at cutting them? (no offense) but maybe he could do it while you're nursing...

  6. I KNOW THE SECRET! It might sound weird, but the only way I can clip Jonah's is by biting them! He thinks it's soo funny too! Maybe that's gross, but Zach accidentally cut him one time really badly and I don't ever want that to happen again! I only do it to his habds though, Zach will clip his toes. Try it though.. you might be surprised. p.s. Charlie is SOOO cute! How much does he weigh now?

  7. I buy onesies and sleepers and any clothing I can find for that matter, that come with the mittens attached...I also buy baby mittens but when they're so little sometimes they don't stay on very well, but if they're attached to the outfit they work well. Once they get old enough (probably 3-4mos) I take them off and clip and file.

  8. when we had our first everyone told me to file them. that lasted for about one nail. i clip. just do it when he's eating our partially asleep, or yeah, like someone else said, have erik do it. i clipped all of my nephews finger nails for my sister in law because it drove me crazy getting scratched by him and she couldn't bring herself to do it. i'd do it for you if we were closer.

  9. The big secret for me is Troy. I can't do it without making Erica bleed, so I pawned the job off to Troy. He manages to get the clippers set, then he gently starts to squeeze. If Erica flinches, he backs off and tries again.

  10. Caitlin- that is grose!

Cristin- Charlie is starting to look like his brother... or maybe its just because he's wearing Luke's clothes. This was a really funny post.
