TIME TO BUY THAT MINI VAN, WE ARE NOW A FAMILY OF FOUR

Erik here doing a quick update for Cristin's blog. Cristin enjoys writing her blog so much that if I were to give a full report of today's happenings she would be upset with me for stealing all of her fun. That being said, she's sleeping, and she likely won't be on the Internet until at least tomorrow, and I know family and friends are dying to see a picture of the newest Lassen.

Baby Charlie getting post birth checkup.

Charles John Lassen was born this morning at 7:00am. He weighs 8lbs 3oz and is 21 inches long. Baby Charlie and Cristin are both doing great. I'll let Cristin share the details of labor and birth, but I want to add my own quick comments. Having Charlie at home was a great decision. Our midwife was AMAZING and fully embodies what a "True" birth professional is. I have a new found awe and respect for midwives, and can't believe the many services that Justine rendered. Charlie's birth was night and day different from Luke's. Luke's birth was still special but the difference between the two was seriously like the difference between spending 6 hours at a relaxing health spa vs. spending 6 hours in the emergency room following a car accident. It was a beautiful experience and it really is tragic that the majority of mothers in "modern" U.S.A. don't get to enjoy the birthing process the way that we did today.

I also have to mention that my wife was amazingly calm and focused through out the labor. She never freaked or panicked. I'm so proud of her for having the courage to choose the home birth option despite a long lists of naysayers and know-it-alls I believe she had the birth experience she was hoping for. It was a beautiful day and I would support Cristin in a second if she chose to do it this way again in the future.

I love you Cristin, you did great. (more pics below)

I know Cristin won't like this picture, but I wanted everyone to see how good she looked the same day she home delivered a baby!

  6. Congratulations you three! I am so happy all went well. I may try it too! He is very cute! Grandma and Gramps look so proud! Cristin, you look great and are amazing! Now was he born Wednesday at 7am or Thursday at 7am? Because if it is Thursday then I am looking at these pics just a half hour after birth. If that is the case then, Cristin you truly are AMAZING!

  20. Let me just be the first to say: hate the name. HATE IT!
Seriously, it's like you wanted to name him after a Scott Baio character, and for some reason you didn't even pick his best one! Your son's name should OBVIOUSLY be Bob Loblaw Lassen.
To recap: I hate the name.

  21. He looks like a lassen! Either that or the mail man. He is soo dark!! Together with Luke you have Ebony and Ivory- or chocolate and Vanilla. Thanks Erik for the post. I am so excited to have ANOTHER nephew!

  24. It was a privelage to drive out to Tehachapi last night and meet little Charlie! He's wonderful...you guys do great work! Cristin, way to go with the home birth! We are so thankful it went as wonderfully as you hoped for.
We're enjoying Luke here in Camarrillo, thanks for letting us bring him home last night.....he's being a great little boy and Hans LOVES having a roommate. He didn't want to go to school today and leave Luke, but he went and Luke was there to meet him at school.
Get some rest...he'll be back before you know it!
Erik, I loved hearing your tender side come out in this tribute to your wonderful wife! Take care of each other and enjoy this special time home bonding together.
Love you all...kisses to Charlie from Gramma.

  25. Congrats Lassen family! What a beautiful looking baby boy you've got. Oh Cristin, I am jealous of the relief you feel from not being pregnant anymore seeing as how I'm only halfway along. I can't think about that. I want to hear ALL the details about your labor from the moment it all started.

  31. Seems kind of silly to say congratulations after it has been said 30 times...and probably more. But, I wanted to congratulate you myself. He really is a doll! I too love the hair, and I appreciate the Lassen nose profile pic.
Best of luck to your family!

  32. Congrats to you both -I knew in my heart that you were bound to have a great home birth and was so happy when I heard you had made that decision! I love your husband's entry and comparison of the emergency room car wreck to the same time frame spent at a spa - I couldn't agree more! Now you get to spread the word and help plant the seeds for other women to seek out a more satisfying birth experience at home.

Great job to you both - Charlie is BEAUTIFUL!!!
