EATING FOR TWO

I didn't know what to write about today, so I figured I would tell those who hadn't heard, that I am pregnant. It's not a secret, I just haven't told a ton of people. Surprised? SO WERE WE!! We are thrilled, excited and really couldn't be happier about the whole thing. We'll take what we can get when we can get it! So, no complaints here. I am due April 22, 2008. I'm fortunate in that I don't really get sick (that's how it was with Luke too), just tired, so it's been pleasant so far.

It's still very awkward for me to tell people. (Since I've posted this on here, we'll see who really reads my blog.) I like to tell people, if I do tell them, at the end of conversations, that way they don't feel they have to talk to me about it for 20 minutes. Really, how much is there that can be said besides my due date and that I don't feel sick?

My favorite reactions so far have been Candace:

"Yeah, I thought you looked fat the last time I saw you." (The last time she had seen me, I was 6 weeks.)

And my Dad:

"Are you happy about that?"

I just figured I should probably start telling more people since my pants are having trouble fitting. If you don't tell anyone, then when you do start showing, people will usually just think you are fat. When I was pregnant with Luke, I didn't tell the majority of my co-workers that I was pregnant for quite awhile. Someone even offered me a free gym membership because I was obviously gaining weight. A co-worker finally asked me at 23 weeks if I was pregnant. I wanted to say, "How rude?!? You should never ask someone if they are pregnant!!" I had always learned that you never ask a woman if they are pregnant unless you literally see the baby coming out... even if they are 23 weeks and wearing maternity clothes...

Anyway, so now you can all leave comments... maybe with even funnier reactions than Candace and my Dad. Although, I do have to admire that kind of "relaxed honesty" that I have with them. How many times do we wish we could say things like that, but instead we just say, "Congratulations!"?

  1. Ah Candace, that girl always says the most beautiful things at the right moment! I lover her dearly. Oh, and...Congratulations...sorry I am not too clever at my wit like other people.

  2. Well, I hope it all goes well and you feel like you know what you're doing now. I mean, isn't that what the first child is all about -- trial and error? (hehehe)

  3. I'm just going with "congratulations" because you already said you're thrilled and I don't see you, so I didn't notice you getting fat. Ha ha ha! Good luck with number 2!

Two questions: Are you going to find out what you are having (gender)? Are you going to share with people the names you are debating? Not that it's any of my business, I'm just curious...and not about the gender and names themselves, but if you are going to be discussing them. I find the whole "baby" thing fascinating...not having one, but all of the conversations and anticipation, etc.

Okay, done with the rambling now.

  4. Hooray! Now Luke will have a little playmate! Oh, and on another topic, will you write a brief summary of what happens on the Office tonight (well I'm most interested in what happens between Pam and Jim) because I've got another show on at the same time.

  5. Well those are better than the reaction I got from mom when I told her I was pregnant. "Why am I not surprised...that's exciting. Now I wanted to talk to you about filing your taxes." Or my instructor's reaction at school, "But your soo small!" I'm very excited for you and Erik, especially Luke! I'm hapy our family is growing!

  6. I want to tell you Congratulations to you and your growing family!!!!! And that I am totally jealous. Now is not the time for us to have another little one but I am still jealous. Why is that?!

  7. Congratulations. So this is my third attempt to make a post. They've all ended in errors.

We're very excited for you. How far along are you? (I realize you told us when you are due, but I'm too lazy to do the math.) How far apart will Luke and the new baby be? Just under two years, right?

I know what you mean about getting to the point where if you haven't told, people just think you are getting a little fat around the waist. I just started wearing maternity clothes so all of those people who didn't know yet are eying my belly and then whispering to people who know me better to find out if I'm pregnant.

  9. Well you better hurry and make more of them critters, 'cause your running out of time! (picture me telling you this while I'm elbowing you and laughing like an old man)

How's that for inappropriate things to say. That seems to be the sort of things people tell me. I've had multiple people tell me that I NEED to have all my children by the time I'm 30 so that my body won't look like a bag of wet laundry. Nice, eh? I guess I prefer congratulations or even "you've got that glow". So... congratulations! Can't wait to find out if it's a boy or a girl.

  12. Congratulations! So exciting to have baby number two. And lucky you, that you don't get sick!!! When I told my dad I was pregnant with Gavin, he said "Oh! Another one already?!" Such a lovely reaction... They are only 20 months apart, but c'mon!

  16. What were you thinking? It seems like you can barely handle one and now you're having another!

How's that for a nice comment. I'm so excited for you guys!!! I really, really, really think you should come to Vegas because Macie wants to have a play date with Luke. Oh yeah, she also wants to meet Lizette and Milana so maybe they can pick you up or something.

  18. I have a good one, "did you plan it?" My sister-in-law is pregnant with her fifth and her oldest is 5. When she told her boss that she was pregnant, yet again, her boss said to her "you know how these things happen don't you?"

Congratulations! I can't wait to get pregnant again. How wonderful that Luke will have a sibling close in age. You know I'm jealous. Every time someone gets pregnant my ovaries skip a beat :).

  20. Two is so much better than one 'cause then they have someone to entertain them besides you! Good luck with everything and enjoy your non-sickness pregnancy....you lucky woman you!

  21. I NEVER SAID YOU LOOKED FAT...I just said that your body looked different. I am very sensitive to saying the word FAT. And you can't be fat if you are a size "0", Cristin.....
    Congratulations again!!!

  22. Okay cristin, we all know you were feeling a little down and wanted to make sure of the amount of friends you have, so you posted this blog.. anyway though I totally agree with trisha. You better just start putting some padding on the walls of one of your rooms to throw your kids in there so they can run wild.

  24. I don't know who goes back to check the comments - but to answer some questions, I am in my 10th week and Luke and the new kid will be 22 months apart.

  28. How'd this happen? Why am I always the last one to find this stuff out! You know it is bad when you have to find the family news out from your wife's blog. Seriously Cristin, grow a backbone and tell me to my face that you and the mailman got busy! GRRRR
